…as a writer
I earned my degree in creative writing from the University of Wisconsin-Parkside and put it to good use when I started freelancing in 2020. I began with how-to guides in a wide range of niches, then realized all I really wanted to write about was fun stuff. Travel, lifestyle, nature, and the like. I’ve been fortunate to have this work appear in magazines like ROVA and NorthPointe, and on websites ranging from Romingo to the Felidae Fund.
Currently, I work as a full-time content writer for Fresenius Medical Care North America as part of the in-house copy and creative agency. My writing ranges from compassionate, easy-to-digest articles for people who are just learning about their kidney disease diagnosis to healthcare professional-facing content about branded products. All of my work is heavily researched and carefully vetted by doctors, dietitians, legal, and other SMEs before it goes live.
In-depth research — both personal and professional — eventually drove me to read scientific texts, so I quickly learned how to untangle technical jargon and decompress data.
…as a human
Is it too cheesy to say that I strive to make the world a better place? It is, I agree, but it’s true that I actively work toward making Fresenius Medical Care a more sustainable company. I am the communications chair for the GREEN ERG (that’s an acronym for Grassroots Employee Environmental Network Employee Resource Group), which means I’m constantly talking to my coworkers about making eco-friendly choices in clinics and at home. And it works! As a group, we’ve made a measurable impact in moving the company towards its goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2040.
When I’m not working, I’m still writing. I can’t help it; it’s some kind of weird creative compulsion. I write fiction under a pen name and intend to self-publish in 2023. I’m also the voice of In Tune Piano Supply, a family business dedicated to making piano maintenance accessible for everyone. I even wrote a whole book about how you — yes, you — can repair our own piano.
Outside of work, I’m a casual Avs fan, competitive knitter (yes, it’s a thing), dog lover, coffee drinker, book reader, and dad joke enthusiast. I live in Wisconsin with my husband, two sons, and spunky dachshund.
My writing partner is a five-year-old wiener-beagle mix whose primary hobbies include:
- Taking me for walks
- Using telekinesis to get the kids to drop their Goldfish crackers
